Fantasy Fiction Explained in Fewer than 90 words and examples.

Well, what is it? What is the meaning of Fantasy Fiction?

Calm yourselves, this is the Fantasy Fiction Tavern after all. Relax and have a drink while I explain. 🍹

First let's define Fiction? Simply put, fiction is literature formed from the imagination, it describes imaginary places, people and events. So basically things that don't exist and are imaginary.

Now what is Fantasy? It is the act of imagining unrealistic situations and things. Thinking about something that is impossible and with no basis in reality

So let's smoosh them together and we have Fantasy Fiction being-

Literature that describes unreal and imaginary situations, places, people and events. (so let your imagination loose when you write)

Get it, gooood.

So now the fun stuff. Here are some of the best and most popular Fantasy Fiction novels out there just in case my explanation wasn't clear enough.

Any fellow Potter heads here? I had to start with Harry Potter, as it was probably the one most people started out with when they really got into fantasy fiction.

I actually grew up watching The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe on television time and time again (I loved it) and only later did I discover the first book in my school library and the rest of the movies in high school. I got really into my feelings for the second movie where after leaving the older ones would forget Narnia and never be able to go back(it was the second movie right?)

J. R. R. Tolkien has been said by many to have the best world building.

Which was your favourite book out of this series?

Let us not ignore this hatastic classic.

Yes, these books are all the same ones always spoken about. But this is a definition so I'm going to provide you with the most clear cut of examples.Plus we cannot deny that these books have pulled us out of reality and into another land time and again when we open them and turn a page, making us completely immersed in another world and isn't that the biggest appeal of fantasy fiction.

Now, I want to ask how would you rank these based on your preference. I am not asking which has the better world building, fantasy elements and writing, because I think all styles and authors are different, but just if you've read these books how would you arrange them from most liked to least and toss in any more famous fantasy literature into the mix. Or you different books from each series.

Also comment the names of some fantasy fiction you think is the best and would like to recommend.

5 Amazing Websites for World Building

Creating a fictional world can be a confusing process. It can be really fun but sometimes while building the world and writing your book you can end up all over the place, more so for  fantasy works. So amongst the hushed whispers of the tavern I have picked up on a few things that made my creating process easier. Now let me let you in on it. 1.Notebook.ai  https://www.notebook.ai I am having a blast using this site. It allows you to create universes, characters, locations, special items and more. You can record the aspects of your world and fill out the forms with details about them. A big plus is that you can add and remove the fields you want under each category and customize them to the fit the needs of your world. So under the Character category, if your world has no magic you can hide our remove that field. Similarly, if the characters can all transform into animals you can add a field called 'transformation' so that it is possible to fill out that information for ...

Youtube Videos on World Building

Are you a bit stuck writing that world of yours? Even with the website I gave before, you still have a bit of trouble with the world building. Well, since you dropped by here are a couple videos that helped me get a better grasp on the world I created for my book.Don't forget though that this is your work, so don't treat all advice as if it's set in stone. 1)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQTQSbjecLg&t=210s How to build a fictional world - Kate Messner As I said in my earlier post on  world building websites , this video was a very short one and some people in the comments said it didn't really answer anything about world building. But for me I  had my first eureka moment after watching this video.  I think most of us grew up watching or reading fantasy work, even if it wasn't some of the most  classic and famous works . Despite those works of fiction and the games we play giving us an  idea the whole concept of world building might still fly ...
